Here are some of the frequently asked questions regarding the Microblading process. If you do not see the answer to your question then feel free to get in touch using the contact page.
Microblading is a relatively new methodof semi permenant makeup which creates natural looking brows instantly by tattooing hairstroke lines into the epidermis layer of the skin and implanting coloured pigment into the hairstroke cuts. The cuts then heal leaving the pigment looking like actual eyebrow hairs creating fuller looking, perfectly shaped brows.
The traditional eyebrow tattooing method uses a machine with a single needle to create either a "block brow effect" or individual brow hairs. The machine effect is great for block coverage but does not look as natural as microblading.
Microblading does not use a machine and needle.
A manual tattoo pen is used with a disposable blade, made up of 14 tiny needles and scratched onto the epidermis layer of skin. This allows the technician to create much finer hair strokes than what is created using a machine.
Microblading can last up to 2 years before fading back to just your natural brows.
There are 2 types of pigments available for microblading (both safe to use on skin):
Ion-oxide metal based Pigments - a mixture of vegetable and metal based pigments. The colours are vibrant and long lasting however the metals used in the pigments can stay behind under the skin after the colour has faded leaving a orangey/green tinge in the skin once the pigment colour has faded.
100% Vegetable based pigements - no metals used in these types of pigments and although not as long lasting as ion-oxide pigments, the benefits of them is that they will fade back to nothing leaving no scarring that metal based pigments leave behind.
At your initial appointment, you will be asked to fill in a medical questionaire which should help determine whether or not the treatment is suitable for you to have.
We will agree on the shape and colour you wish to achieve.
We will numb the brow area using a topical numbing agent called EMLA which takes around 10-15 minutes to take effect.
We will then proceed with tattooing the area and implanting the pigment which generally takes around 25-30 minutes.
Appointment time - Approximately 2 hours
At top up appointment, (4-6 weeks after initial treatment) we will assess your healed brows, determine whether or not you need to go a shade darker with the pigment and re-numb the brow area. We will then go over the faded areas and fill in any major gaps that have occured when healing.
Appointment time - 1 hour
In some cases, a 3 rd treatment is needed to go over stubborn areas. A small fee of £50 will be required.
Appointment time - 40 minutes
There are over 10 colours to choose from ranging from "Honey Brown" for blonde/fair haired clients, "Chocolate Brown" for brunettes and "Warm Black" for clients who want dark bold brows.
Clients are advised to bring their brow pencils with them to help colour match their pigment.
Remember the pigment will fade between 30-50% lighter after 7 days of having your treatment.
Immediately after the treatment, your brows will look 30-50% darker in colour than the final effect which will be visable around 2-4 weeks after the treatment has happened. Most clients are happy to make social plans straight after the treatment has been performed.
You may experience some mild swelling and redness immediately after the procedure and that should disappear within a few hours.
90% of all microblading clients will need a top up 4 - 6 weeks after the first treatment. This usually takes around 1 hour and the hairstrokes are re-drawn over the healed areas and any gaps are filled in where the pigment has migrated under the skin or fallen out during the healing process.
In some cases, a third top up is required at a small cost.
With all SPMU treatments the results can never be 100% guarenteed that they will be suitable for everyone.
Microblading is suitable for most people's skin types with the odd exception who have particularly oily skin or large open pores. With oily skin the pigment does not stay and has a tendancy to disappear very quickly.
As with all tattoos, whether SPMU or body tattoos, hot sunshine and sunbeds will encouarge the pigment to fade much more quickly. It is not advised you go on holiday or on sunbeds within the first 4 weeks of having your brows tattooed if you plan to be out in the hot sun.
